About this Garden Plan

Summary of the four garden plots 1.The three successive planting schedules I chose were the ones given on the instruction sheet because it was already given and for the sake of simplicity. Spring crop (broccoli), Summer crop (cabbage), Fall crop (winter squash); Summer crop (brussels sprouts), Fall crop (sweet potato); Spring crop (carrots), Fall crop (kale). I then chose to describe the common pests that would affect the Spring (carrots) and Fall crop (kale) planting schedule. General aphids, carrot rust flies, slugs, snails, and wireworms are all potential pests of the carrot (GrowVeg 2018). Kales pests are general aphids, slugs, snails, the Diamond-back moth, and the harlequin (GrowVeg 2018). 2.I chose to find beneficial bugs for the successive planting schedule that contained the Summer crop (brussels sprouts) and Fall crop (sweet potato). Since one of the brussels sprouts pests is aphids, I needed to find a plant that would attract a predator for aphids. The lady bug eats aphids so I decided to add cilantro to my garden plot because lady bugs are attracted to cilantro (GrowVeg 2018). Another one of the brussels sprouts pests are slugs, so I decided to plant dill. Dill naturally attracts fireflies and firefly larvae, which eat and ward off slugs. The other vegetable I chose to find beneficial bugs for was the sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are targeted by slugs, so in order to get rid of those I had to plant rhubarb. Rhubarb attracts Ground Beetles, another predator of slugs. The other pest sweet potaoes are affected by is aphids. In order to get rid of the aphids I planted tansy. Tansy attracts lacewings and lacewings eat aphids. Attracting these kinds of beneficial insects will create an ideal environment for the brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes to grow in (GrowVeg 2018). 3.The four kinds of fruit I incorporated into the garden plot were blueberries, raspberries, a peach tree, and a persimmon tree.
